Working With Jamestown as a Buyside Advisor

We receive a steady stream of inbound from buyside advisors and deal sourcers, and we're grateful for the interest. To save everyone time, this page lays out how we work with advisors, where our capacity currently stands, and the best way to start a conversation.

How we engage advisors

Jamestown works with buyside advisors under two models: retained and success-fee (non-retained). Both have been genuine sources of the businesses we've pursued, and we value the advisors we work with in each.

Retained relationships are currently at capacity

We are not adding new retained buyside advisors at this time. Our retained roster is full.

In an ideal world we'd work with every strong advisor on a retainer — it aligns incentives, respects the work that goes in regardless of outcome, and tends to produce the best relationships. Carrying a retainer for every advisor who approaches us isn't economically feasible. We cap the number of retained relationships we maintain, and that cap is currently met.

We are open to success-fee engagements

If you'd like to work with us on a success-fee basis, we'd welcome the conversation. Reach out and we'll share our current acquisition target list and our standard success-fee terms, so you can quickly gauge whether there's a fit with your pipeline.

The fastest way to start is to get in touch with a short note on the sectors and geographies you focus on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jamestown taking on new retained buyside advisors?

No. We're currently at capacity on retained relationships and are not adding new retained advisors at this time.

Can I still work with Jamestown as an advisor?

Yes, we have several success-fee engagements and are open to adding to that. Reach out and we'll share our target list and terms.

Why doesn't Jamestown retain every advisor?

We'd like to, but retaining every advisor who approaches us isn't economically feasible. We cap our retained roster and prioritize a manageable number of relationships.
